Project Details

Perched in the hills above Montauk with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and Montauk Lighthouse, this residence was envisioned as both a family retreat and a tribute to the area’s maritime heritage. Architect Christopher DiSunno drew inspiration from the bow of a ship cutting through waves, shaping the home’s bold geometry and nautical details to echo Montauk’s sea faring spirit.

The design balances durability with elegance, employing maintenance-free exterior finishes and natural materials that reflect the rugged coastline. Expansive glass and metal stair towers flood the interiors with light, while wrap-around decks and circular porthole windows capture panoramic ocean vistas. At the third floor captain’s lookout, residents can survey the horizon much like a mariner scanning the open sea.

Inside, warm maple paneling, exposed steel trusses, and granite countertops combine to create a modern yet timeless interior. Open gathering spaces link the kitchen, dining, and living areas, ensuring the home remains the heart of family life. With its spacious bedrooms, generous recreation areas, and outdoor shower tucked under the eaves, the retreat embodies the harmony of ship-inspired design and coastal living, crafted to bring generations together under one roof.
